On Saturday, May 24, CESI President Guido Bortoni took part in the panel discussion “Energy and Climate Transition Observatory: 2024 Review and Future Prospects” during the 20th edition of the Trento Festival of Economics, dedicated this year to the theme “Fatal Risks and Choices. Europe at a Crossroads.”
In his remarks, Mr. Bortoni emphasized the importance of a balanced approach to the energy transition—one that integrates climate sustainability, energy security, and economic viability. He highlighted the need for a paradigm shift from OPEX-based energy systems to CAPEX-intensive infrastructures, focusing particularly on power grids and storage systems.
He also stressed the importance of a diversified energy mix, combining non-dispatchable renewables like solar and wind with dispatchable, decarbonized sources such as hydro and geothermal, supported by flexible infrastructures and advanced storage solutions.
The panel, moderated by Il Sole 24 Ore journalist Sara Deganello, featured high-level representatives from institutions, academia, and industry:
In today’s complex geopolitical and economic environment, CESI’s contribution to the discussion reaffirmed its strategic role in supporting the transformation of power systems toward a more sustainable, secure, and resilient energy future.
